Making Herself at Home

Last week my niece moved into my house. I live two blocks away from the college that she got into and her and her mother had decided that it made more economic sense for her to live with me, as opposed to living in the dorm. Before she arrived I had gone out and bought some discount curtains, but I wasn’t sure if she was going to like them. I guess I should’ve waited for her to arrive so that she could come and pick out exactly what she wanted, but I didn’t really think things through.

As soon as she arrived I helped her unpack her things and told her to make herself feel at home. Within a few hours she had most of her things set up the way she wanted, and she was even able to wash her animal print comforters. I hadn’t seen these things in forever and just figured that they had donated them or something, because shes had these things ever since she was a little girl. I teased her about having them and she told me to keep quiet, because they had a lot of sentimental value and she didn’t need her uncle making fun of her.
